Lucknow:Taking an important step towards providing better connectivity between Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, the Yogi government plans to extend the Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway to Panipat in Haryana. This 6-lane high-speed corridor will be the longest expressway in Uttar Pradesh, with an estimated length of about 700 kilometers.

Expressway will pass through these districts

This new expressway will pass through about 22 districts of Uttar Pradesh, providing direct connectivity to a large part of the state. These districts include Gorakhpur, Sant Kabirnagar, Siddharthnagar, Balrampur, Bahraich, Lucknow, Sitapur, Hardoi, Shahjahanpur, Badaun, Rampur, Bareilly, Sambhal, Bijnor, Amroha, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar and Shamli. The construction of this expressway will significantly reduce the travel time between eastern and western Uttar Pradesh.

Industrial development will gain momentum

This expressway will directly connect Haryana’s industrial city Panipat, which has more than 3,000 units of textile, furniture, paper and agro-based industries. This will not only facilitate the movement of raw materials for industries and delivery of finished goods to the market, but will also make the travel of workers working from UP to Haryana easier and faster.

Key Features of the Project:

  • Length:Approximately 700 kilometres, which will make it the longest expressway in UP.
  • Lane:It will be a 6-lane high-speed access controlled corridor, which can be expanded to eight lanes in the future.
  • Connectivity:This expressway will also connect to Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway and Delhi-Meerut Expressway, thereby facilitating trade and travel across North India.
  • project status:The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being prepared by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Technical aspects will be discussed with the state government after the report is finalized.
  • Estimated start:After the DPR is ready, construction work is expected to start by March or in 2026

This ambitious project will prove beneficial not only for the people of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, but also Bihar and West Bengal, as it will make the travel from Eastern UP to West Bengal easier by connecting to the Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway. This expressway is likely to accelerate trade, employment and industrial activities, which will give a new direction to the development of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
