News India Live, Digital Desk: Lord Shiva is known for his amazing forms and pastimes, one of them is his Kirat Avatar ‘which is mainly described in the mythological contexts of Mahabharata. This story reflects his immense love and blessings towards Veera Arjuna, the supreme devotee of Lord Shiva. After the Mahabharata war, when the Pandavas began to suffer the sorrow of killing their own relatives, Dharmaraja left for the Himalayas for the Himalayas to get rid of sins and Lord Shiva on the orders of Dharmaraja Yudhishthira. On the way, Maharishi Ved Vyasa explained to the Pandavas and told that he should do austerity of Shiva so that he can be freed from all his sins and gets divine weapons to protect against the upcoming crises. With the inspiration of Ved Vyas, Arjuna was absorbed in austerity on the Indrakil mountain in search of divine weapons, his aim was to please Lord Shiva and get a powerful ‘Pashupatastra’ with him. When Arjuna’s penance reached the peak and the earth started shivering with hardness, the gods expressed concern. On this, Lord Shiva himself decided to test Arjuna. He disguised as the hunter ‘Kirat’ and with his wife Parvati, who took the form of Kiratini, and with Ganas, who disguised the Bhil and Bhilani, went to Arjuna’s penance to the land. At the same time, at the same time, a mayvi demon called ‘Mauk’, who took a terrible form of a boar, came to disturb Arjuna. As soon as the demon, both Arjun and Kirat fired an arrow on that pig. The boar collapsed there. Now there was a debate between Arjun and Kirat over the right of this dead boar. In Kirat form, Shiva claimed that he had earlier attacked, while Arjun remained adamant about his arrow before. The debate soon turned into sharp debate and then war. There was a fierce battle between the two. Arjuna fled all his weapons on that elusive hunter, but no blow could harm Kirat. Finally, when all Arjuna’s weapons were finished, he stopped the war and accepted his defeat and meditated on Lord Shiva with his mental strength and devotion. When he offered flowers to Mahadev in his mental worship, he was surprised that the same flowers were appearing at the feet of the hunter as Kirat. Seeing this, Arjuna immediately understood that Kirat is none other than Lord Shiva. He bowed to Dandavat at the feet of his worship and apologized to him. Lord Shiva was very pleased with the devotion, loyalty and war of Arjuna. He showed Arjuna his true form, hugged him and blessed him. Pleased, Mahadev honored Arjuna with his most powerful weapon ‘Pashupatastra’ and gave the boon of freedom from all sins. Thus, through Kirat Avatar, Shiva not only protected Arjuna but also provided him with the divine weapon, which proved to be helpful in making him victorious in further war.
