New Delhi: Is the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) going to stop issuing 500 rupee notes after 2000? Actually, a message on WhatsApp is going viral. It states that the Reserve Bank has instructed banks to gradually stop issuing 500 rupee notes from ATMs. The message states that by March 2026, out of the ATM, the note of 500 rupee notes will be completely closed.

The message wrote, “The Reserve Bank has asked all banks to stop withdrawing 500 rupee notes from ATMs by September 30, 2025. The target is to stop extracting 500 rupee notes from ATMs of 75% banks by March 31, 2026 and then 500 rupee notes from 90% ATM.

What is the truth of viral message?

The truth of this message has been made public by PIB Fact Czech. It has been posted on social media platform x by PIB Fact Czech. It is written that the Reserve Bank has not given any such instruction and a 500 rupee note is still valid. This means that a 500 rupee note is still legally valid and can be used.

PIB has advised people to stay away from such false information. The PIB Fact Czech unit has asked people to get information from reliable places like government websites to know the truth of any news. Also said that if you find any message wrong, then report it. This will help prevent false information from spreading.

The Reserve Bank has not yet issued any official statement or circular indicating any change in the status or circulation of 500 rupee notes. 500 rupee notes are still being accepted across the country.
