New York: Amazon will invest another $2.75 billion (Rs 22,923 crore) in Artificial Intelligence (AI) startups. Earlier in September itself, Amazon had invested $ 1.25 billion (Rs 10,419 crore) in it. With this, the total value of Amazon's investments in AI startups will reach $4 billion (Rs 33,344 crore).

With the investment, Amazon will retain its minority stake in San Francisco-based Anthropic, a rival to OpenAI maker ChatGPIT. Swami Sivasubramaniam, AWS vice president of data and AI at Amazon's Clyde Computing subsidiary, said generative AI is the most transformative technology of our time. We believe that our strategic collaboration with Anthropic will enhance our customer experiences and we look forward to sharing its future.”

The Seattle-based tech giant invested $1.25 billion in Anthropic last September and indicated it would invest a total of $4 billion. The two companies are collaborating to establish so-called foundation models, which are to be established under the auspices of generative AI systems, and this has attracted worldwide attention.

Under the deal, Anthropic will use AWS as the primary cloud provider and use Amazon's custom chips to build, train and deploy AI models. It will give AWS customers, primarily businesses, access to a model called Amazon Bedrock Services. In Wednesday's announcement, Amazon said companies like Delta Airlines and Siemens are using Bedrock to access Anthropic's AI models.

This investment is an example of how big tech giants are investing in artificial intelligence startups and taking advantage of the massive public and business interest in the technology. Earlier this year, US antitrust regulators said they would review the investment.
