This specialty of this temple always remains the center of discussion due to which lakhs of devotees come to visit this temple. We are talking about Stambheshwar Mahadev Temple located in Vadodara, Gujarat. Let us know the mystery behind the disappearance of this temple.
The temple disappears
Stambheshwar Mahadev Temple is located on the sea coast in Bharuch district of Gujarat. It disappears from its place twice a day, due to which this unique temple is also called the disappearing temple. There is no miracle behind the disappearance of the temple, but a beautiful phenomenon of nature. This temple was discovered about 200 years ago. Since the temple is located on the sea coast, the entire temple gets submerged in the sea when the tide comes. These people come to visit the temple only after the tide comes in the sea. Such natural activities have been happening for centuries. Shivalinga of Mahadev is worshiped in the temple when the waves rise during high tide. This event takes place every morning and evening.
The legend of the temple
The story of the construction of this temple is described in Skandapuran. It is said that Tarakasura performed very rigorous penance for Lord Shiva, due to which Lord Bholenath was pleased and asked the demon to ask for the desired boon. As a boon, the demon demanded that only the six-month-old son of Lord Shiva could kill the demon.
After getting a boon from Lord Shiva, Tarakasura spread terror everywhere and troubled all the gods and sages. Troubled by the end of the demon, all the gods and sages reached Mahadev and told everything to Bholenath, after which Kartikeya killed Tarakasura when he was only 6 days old.
Later, when Kartikeya came to know that Tarakasura was a devotee of Lord Shankar, he was very disappointed. Lord Vishnu told Kartikeya that to get rid of this sin he should build a Shiva temple instead of killing the demon. After this, all the gods together established the Vishwanandak Pillar at Mahisagar Sangam Tirtha, which is today known as Stambheshwar Tirtha.
