News India Live, Digital Desk: The difference between the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and the salary of general employees of the companies worldwide has reached a worrying level. According to the latest Oxfam report, globally, the CEO’s salary has recorded a actual increase of about 50 percent as compared to 2019, while the average salary of employees has increased by just 0.9 percent in this period.
According to the report, the average annual salary of CEO in the year 2019 was $ 29 lakh, which has now increased by about 50 percent. At the same time, there has been a negligible increase in the salaries of employees, due to which the level of salary inequality has now become very worrying.
The situation in India is also no different, where the average annual salary of the CEOs of companies has reached about 2 million dollars by 2024. According to Amitabh Behar, Executive Director, Oxfam International, “This inequality is not an accident, but the result of a system that ensures the flow of money upwards, while the working people are struggling for livelihood.”
In countries like Ireland and Germany, this inequality is also at its peak, where the average salary of the CEO has reached around $ 67 lakh and $ 47 million respectively.
Due to rising cost of living and increasing inflation, the salaries of employees are not able to keep pace. According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), in 2024, global actual salary increased by just 2.7 percent, while in many countries this salary has been stable.
In the report, the issue of female-male pay inequality has also been raised prominently. Although there has been a slight improvement in this, but globally this difference is still 22 percent, which is quite worrisome.
Oxfam has also expressed concern over the effects of Customs Policies of US President Donald Trump. The report says that due to these policies, there is a danger of missing jobs globally and increasing the price of essential items, which may further increase salary inequality.
The study calls for immediate action from governments and global leaders to take immediate action and find a solution to this serious problem.
