Lok Sabha Elections 2024: In Himachal Pradesh, all six rebel Congress MLAs and three independent MLAs have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Congress MLAs Sudhir Sharma, Ravi Thakur, Rajendra Singh Rana, Chaitanya Sharma, Devendra Bhutto and Inder Dutt Lakhanpal have joined BJP. After these MLAs joining BJP, Congress has now got 34 out of total 68 assembly seats. BJP's seats will not increase as Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker has suspended 6 rebel MLAs and 3 independent MLAs have resigned.
Six rebel MLAs disqualified
Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania has disqualified six rebel MLAs who rebelled in the Rajya Sabha elections. He said, 'Our secretariat received a complaint by MLA and Minister Harsh Vardhan against six MLAs under the anti-defection law, after which they heard both the sides and gave their decision. The suspended MLAs violated the whip.
What will happen next in Himachal Pradesh?
Congress had 40 MLAs in Himachal Pradesh Assembly. The number required for majority in the 68-member assembly was 35. After the rebellion of six MLAs, the numbers game of Congress has reduced from 40 to 34, which is one less than the number required for majority. But after the disqualification of the rebel MLAs, the strength of the assembly has now reduced to 62. In such a situation, the required figure for majority has now become 32. So at present only Congress is ahead in the assembly.
