Assembly elections in Delhi can be announced in the first week of the new year. The Election Commission has almost reached the final stage of election preparations. Various monitoring teams have been formed to ensure transparent and fair elections.

Formation of monitoring teams

• The Home Department of Delhi Government has issued the notification of State Surveillance Team, Flying Squad, and Sector Officers on the instructions of the Commission.
• These teams have also been given special magistrate power so that they can take action against those involved in election irregularities.
• These teams will play an important role in enforcing the code of conduct and ensuring fair elections.

expense monitoring

• New guidelines have been issued to monitor the expenditure of political parties and candidates.
• Now the monitoring committee will have to update the expenditure details of the candidates on EEMS software daily.
• This will include:
  • Name of the candidate.
  • Bank account and shadow register.
  • Information and reason for expenditure.

Final voter list: To be released on January 5

• The Election Commission will release the final voter list on January 5.
• At present, the process of scrutiny of more than 2.67 lakh applications for addition and deletion of names in the voter list is going on.
• This process will be completed by Wednesday.
• According to the draft voter list released on October 29, 2024, there are a total of more than 1.53 crore voters in Delhi.

Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi R. Alice Vaz has appealed to the voters to call the helpline number 1950 for any information related to the voter list.
