New Delhi. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav has started a new political debate by advising West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to hand over the leadership of INDIA alliance. Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kirti Azad also supported making Mamata Banerjee the president of the alliance in a video statement. He said that Mamata Banerjee is completely capable of leadership. After this statement of Lalu Yadav, the commotion in political circles has increased.
Sanjay Raut’s reaction – trust in Rahul Gandhi remains intact
Senior Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has reacted clearly to this statement of Lalu Yadav. He said, “No one is questioning Rahul Gandhi’s leadership. Rahul Gandhi is and will remain our leader. Rahul Gandhi has a big contribution in strengthening the opposition against the Modi government. No one can deny this.”
Raut further said that the INDIA alliance is not limited to just Congress. There are many parties involved and each party may have its own viewpoint. He said, “If a change in the leadership of Mamata Banerjee or any other leader increases the strength of the alliance, then it can be considered.” However, he also made it clear that any such decision should be taken only with the consent of all parties. Congress should also discuss this issue with other parties.
There is a need for brainstorming regarding leadership in INDIA alliance.
It is clear from Sanjay Raut’s statement that there is a possibility of an open discussion regarding leadership in the INDIA alliance. While on one hand the opposition parties have shown unity under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, on the other hand the suggestion of bringing forward a senior leader like Mamata Banerjee is also being seriously considered. The statement of an experienced leader like Lalu Yadav cannot be taken lightly.
Opinion of TMC and other parties
Trinamool Congress leaders believe that Mamata Banerjee has the ability to lead the alliance. Kirti Azad said that an example can be given of Mamata Banerjee’s political acumen and her leadership skills. She is not only a strong Chief Minister but also has the ability to unite the opposition parties.
Sensitive issue, need of collective consensus
For the success of the joint opposition, it is necessary that all the parties come together and take a concrete decision on the issue of leadership. However, Sanjay Raut’s statement also shows that no decision should be taken in haste. This decision should be taken only when there is collective consensus of all the parties.
