Ranchi, 07 December (Hindustan Reporter). The bail petition filed by suspended IAS Pooja Singhal for her release from jail under the new law was heard on Saturday in the court of Special Judge PK Sharma of Ranchi, Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). After the hearing, the court has given relief to Pooja Singhal and ordered her to get bail on a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh each. Apart from this, they will have to submit their passport in the court.
Earlier, the court had directed the Superintendent of Birsa Munda Central Jail to tell how long Pooja Singhal has been in jail and what is the period of her judicial custody. In light of this, the jail superintendent has filed a reply in the court. Pooja Singhal has been in jail for almost 28 months. According to Pooja Singhal’s advocate, under the new law, if the period of judicial custody of an accused who has been in jail for a long time is one-third of the sentence given in that case, then he can be granted bail. He said that under section 479 of BNS, an accused, whose first offense is committed and has served one-third of the maximum punishment under that section in under trial, will be entitled to bail.
It is noteworthy that ED had raided 25 locations of Pooja Singhal on May 5, 2022. During this period, cash worth Rs 19.31 crore was recovered from the residence and office of CA Suman Singh. After this ED arrested Pooja Singhal and CA Suman Singh. During the interrogation of both of them, ED got important information about unaccounted money and investments elsewhere. Pooja Singhal was arrested on May 11, 2022.
