New Delhi: The government said in a statement that till November 13 this year, the country’s airlines received 994 false bomb threats and strong protocols have been implemented to prevent such threats.

The Civil Aviation Ministry plans to amend the ‘Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Civil Aviation Safety Act, 1982’ and ‘Aircraft (Security) Rules, 2023’ to comprehensively curb the menace of false threats.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol said that between August 2022 and November 13, 2024, airlines received 1,143 false bomb threats.

According to the information given by Pradhan, 994 false threats were received from January to 13 November 2024. He further said that all these threats proved to be false and nothing was found in the investigation.

Due to these false threats, flight operations of some airlines were affected. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has put in place robust protocols to prevent and counter such threats. For this, Bomb Threat Contingency Plan (BTCP) has been implemented.

Under the BCTCP, each airport is required to constitute a Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC). BTAC will investigate the threat and take appropriate action accordingly.
