New Delhi, 15 November (HS). Narcotics Control Bureau has seized a consignment of 82.53 kg of high grade cocaine in Janakpuri and Nangloi area here. Its value in the international market has been estimated at around Rs 900 crore. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has praised the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for seizing such a huge consignment of drugs in a single day and said that this campaign against the drug racket will continue.
According to the Union Home Ministry, in a major breakthrough against drug trafficking syndicates operating in the country and especially in the Delhi NCR region, the Narcotics Control Bureau recovered the largest consignment of cocaine in Delhi. This seizure was the result of a concerted effort by the NCB team on the clues obtained during a previous seizure in the month of March, 2024 and August, 2024. After working on the leads in these cases and through technical and human intelligence, NCB was finally able to reach the source of the contraband and recovered 82.53 kg of high grade cocaine from Janakpuri and Nangloi area of Delhi on November 14. Went.
Investigation is underway to identify the backward and forward linkages of the drug syndicate, for which the help of foreign DLEAs is being taken. This operation is also a great example of inter-agency cooperation and coordination.
Earlier this year, the NCB formed a team comprising officers from the Operations Branch of the NCB Headquarters and officers from the Operations/Intelligence Wing of the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard and ATS Gujarat Police to counter the threat to national security posed by maritime smuggling of illicit drugs. Operation “Sagar-Manthan” was started for. NCB has launched a series of such maritime operations in coordination with the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard and so far around 3400 kg of various narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances have been seized and 11 Iranian nationals and 14 Pakistani nationals have been arrested in three cases. All of those arrested are in jail awaiting trial.
These significant operational achievements in Indian territorial waters are a testament to our resolve to eliminate the menace of narcotic drugs from India to realize our vision of a drug-free India by 2047. To further enhance the capabilities of law enforcement agencies to combat the menace of drug trafficking and drug abuse, the Central Government has recently created 111 posts in the NCB, in addition to the 425 posts created in the last 2 years. 5 SP level posts are also included.
Earlier on Friday, about 700 kg of methamphetamine, a synthetic recreational drug, worth Rs 2,500-3,500 crore was seized in Indian waters off the Gujarat coast around Porbandar.
