Rapido Extra Charge: Using ride-hailing company Rapido has become common. A Rapido user in Chennai has claimed that a driver associated with the company charged him Rs 1000 to cover a distance of 21 km. Whereas the fare was shown as Rs 350. The user claimed that due to waterlogging the driver charged him more fare.
Ashok Raj Rajendran, founder and CEO of AJ Skill Development Academy, said his Rapido driver initially asked him to pay Rs 1,000 for a distance of 21 km, while only Rs 350 was shown on the app. When he complained about being charged extra fees, the company “closed the chat”.
thousand rupees for 21 kilometers
Posting on LinkedIn, Rajendra said he booked a Rapido ride from Madras Central Railway Station to Thoraipakkam in Chennai, a distance of 21 km. At the time of booking, the fare was shown on the app as Rs 350, but the driver asked for Rs 1000. The Rapido driver cited waterlogging in the area for the increased fare.
Rajendran further said that he will reduce the fare to Rs 100. 800 have been successful. This fare was double the fare shown on the app. Furthermore, there has been no flooding in the Chennai area.
What did the company say?
A user has shared a screenshot of the company's chatbot. According to this, the company has claimed that due to the difference between the selected drop location and the drop location, the fare has been charged more. At the same time, the user said that the difference is only 100 meters. That means 100 percent additional fare for just 100 meters.
