The stock market was in decline as soon as it opened on the day of Dhanteras. But during closing at 3.30 pm, Sensex increased by 368 points and closed at 80,374 points. While Nifty closed at 24,456 points with a gain of 117 points. Both Nift and Sensex closed in the green. The holy day of Dhanteras has been very good for the Indian stock market. The market was trading with a decline throughout the day. But in the last hours, Sensex and Nifty closed with strong gains due to strong buying by investors in banking shares. Midcap and smallcap stocks have also performed well.

In today's trading, out of 3982 shares traded on BSE, 2214 shares closed with gains and 1643 shares closed with decline. There was no change in the price of 125 shares. Out of 30 Sensex stocks, 16 stocks closed higher and 14 stocks closed lower. Whereas out of 50 stocks of Nifty, 31 stocks closed with a rise and 19 stocks closed with a fall. Gainers included Federal Bank 8.49 percent, SBI 5.13 percent, ICICI Bank 5.13 percent, Bajaj Finserv 2.18 percent, NTPC 2.11 percent, Bajaj Finance 1.61 percent, Larsen 1.25 percent, Axis Bank 1.31 percent. Whereas Maruti Suzuki closed with a fall of 4.11 percent, Tata Motors 4.06 percent, Sun Pharma 2.14 percent, Bharti Airtel 1.61 percent, Infosys 1.25 percent.
