69 years later, on 20 October 2011, in the same city of Sirte in Libya where dictator Muammar al Gaddafi was born, rebel fighters were seen dragging Gaddafi's body on the road. Gaddafi, who once challenged the US, was caught trying to hide in a sewer pipeline to escape from rebel and interim government troops before his death. However, when the soldiers of the interim government were taking him away in a badly injured condition, Gaddafi did not protest in any way. He was fully aware that his end was near.
Libyan dictator Gaddafi staged a coup at the age of 27 and ruled the country for 42 years. Gaddafi, born on 7 June 1942 in Sirte city of Libya, was always influenced by Arab nationalism. On 1 September 1969, he joined forces with rebels to seize power from King Idris and was sworn in as army chief. Controlled the entire country's army and ordered the closure of American and British military bases that were receiving help from Libya. He changed the Gregorian calendar and implemented the Islamic calendar. Banned the sale of liquor. In December 1969, when Gaddafi's political opponents tried to seize power, he murdered them one by one. Later, those who opposed him started being hanged publicly.
Resentment and anger among the people against the Gaddafi regime continued to increase. Meanwhile, Gaddafi banned the governments of many countries in his country, due to which Libya's economy started deteriorating. The international community supported Gaddafi's rebels. When the NATO alliance began airstrikes, the rebels captured the capital Tripoli. In July 2011, 30 countries of the world recognized the rebel government in Libya. During this time, the influence of Gaddafi and his supporters was limited to his hometown Sirte. But Gaddafi was not safe here either. Gaddafi was killed in Sirte on 20 October 2011.
