Chandigarh: The Punjab government is now taking the help of Punjabi artists to stop the spread of drug addiction in the state. When administration and social organizations fail to eradicate any evil then religion and film artistes become the only support. Seeing that the disease of drug addiction has started taking root in Punjab, religious gurus are already giving the message to the youth to stay away from drugs, now the state government has started taking the help of film artists. Apart from famous artists, players have also been giving the message to the youth to stay away from drugs.
Comedian Kapil Sharma is also involved in the drug-free Punjab campaign. Kapil Sharma said that a river of drugs is flowing in the state. Young people don't know what they are doing. What will happen to them in future? Therefore, we all should together inspire the youth to stay away from drugs.
Apart from comedian Kapil Sharma, Punjabi artists Binu Dhillon, Jasbir Jassi, Amrit Maan, Gurchar painter, Olympiad Manu Bhaker have also joined the drug-free campaign of Punjab Police. Anti-drug task force was formed about a month ago. Since formation, Punjab Police has seized around 85 kg of heroin, the second highest seizure so far this year. Last September, 908 suspects were arrested and 661 FIRs were filed. On an average, about 30 drug smugglers are caught every day and 22 FIRs are registered. Police had seized 119 kg of heroin in April, which is the highest in a month so far this year. Drug trafficking has been a complex issue in the state for more than a decade.
Apart from busting several gangs, the police have booked a DSP for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 45 lakh to release suspects in an NDPS case. Last month, property worth Rs 49 crore of drug smugglers was confiscated.
