Chief Minister launches 'Sankalp' initiative to tackle the growing drug problem | News India

Shimla, 07 October (HS). Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu participated in the bhajan evening 'Bhaj Govindam' organized by Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan here today. During the programme, the Chief Minister launched the anti-addiction initiative aimed at curbing the drug problem.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that the state government is committed to curb drug trafficking and rehabilitate drug addicts. The state government has given instructions to take strict action against people involved in drug smuggling and many people were arrested last month.

He said that the state government is going to establish a state level drug prevention and rehabilitation center in Kotla-Barog under Pachhad sub-division of Sirmaur district. This center will prove helpful in bringing out the people struggling with drug addiction and including them in the mainstream of the society.

The Chief Minister said that the objective of spiritual programs is to inspire people towards self-awakening and to make them aware of their responsibilities towards the society. He said that saints, gurus and social reformers have made an incomparable contribution in eradicating the evils prevalent in the society, laying a strong foundation of the society and establishing balance in life. Praising the efforts of Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan, he said that under the guidance of Divya Guru Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, the institute is playing a remarkable role in social service work in India and abroad.

Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that he has personally visited the institute at Noor Mahal and seen the spiritual and social programs being conducted there.

Emphasizing on preserving the unique beauty and cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh, the Chief Minister said that the state government is working in this direction for sustainable development. He said that in order to establish Himachal as a green energy state, he has requested through a letter to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav to operate the Kalka-Shimla rail service through green hydrogen.
