There is a very big and good news for lakhs of central employees across the country. The government forms a new pay commission every 10 years, and now preparations for the 8th Pay Commission have started. As soon as this is implemented, there will be a bumper jump in the salaries of government employees.
But people have many questions in their mind – When will it be implemented? How much will the salary increase? And what does it mean to be ‘DA Zero’? Come, let us understand the answers to all these questions in simple language.
The biggest question: When will it be implemented?
It is expected that the government will soon constitute a panel for the 8th Pay Commission. This panel may take about 18 months to give its recommendations. The best thing is that it 1 January 2026 Will be implemented from. This means, even if there is some delay in its implementation, you will get the full arrears from January 1, 2026.
What is the secret of ‘Zero DA’? Is this a disadvantage?
No, this is not a loss but a great news for you! Many employees get confused after hearing that ‘DA is zero’, but its mathematics is very easy and beneficial. Understand it in two steps:
First step: Merger of DA and basic salary
- By the time the 8th Pay Commission comes into effect (i.e. on January 1, 2026), your Dearness Allowance (DA) will have reached approximately 60-61%.
- Under the rule, this entire DA will be added to your existing basic salary.
- Example: Suppose, right now your basic salary ₹50,000 Is. 60% DA on this till 2026 (i.e. ₹30,000) Are getting. When the new pay commission comes into effect, this DA will be added to your basic.
- so yours ‘New basic salary’ Will be: ₹50,000 (Old Basic) + ₹30,000 (Complete DA) = ₹80,000,
Second step: DA meter will start from zero
- As soon as your entire DA is added to your basic salary, the DA meter will be reset. ‘Zero’ (0%) Will be done.
- Same thing happened at the time of 7th Pay Commission also. When it was implemented in 2016, the then 125% DA was merged into the basic salary.
So what is its real benefit?
The real benefits start now! In future, whenever the government increases dearness allowance (say 3% or 4%), it will not be calculated on your old basic salary (₹ 50,000), but on your New and increased basic salary (₹80,000) But it will happen.
- According to old: 4% DA means 4% of ₹50,000 = ₹2,000.
- According to new: 4% DA would mean 4% of ₹80,000 = ₹3,200.
This means that every time DA increases, your salary will increase even faster than before. This will prove to be very beneficial for you in the long run.
