Mumbai: A group of eight people from Navi Mumbai went for trekking to Mataji hill in Panvel on Sunday. These trekkers wanted to go to the nearby Panchpeer mountain from here, but lost their way and got lost on the mountain. When they could not find the way, they contacted the local disaster management department and police, finally a team of eight policemen from Panvel police with the help of local villagers found these people after hours of effort and brought them down from the foothills safely. The pilgrims, who live in Nerul area of Navi Mumbai, included three men, a woman and four children.
According to information provided by Panvel police, this group of Nerul residents started climbing the hill at 9.30 am on Sunday. As these people were going to the nearby Panch Peer hill, they were moving forward continuously. At around 3.30 pm, he felt that he had lost his way and was on his way. After this, these people contacted the disaster management department and informed the police about the matter.
According to police sources, after receiving a call at 3.30 pm, a team of eight policemen went out to search for him. The police took the help of the locals of Nandagam in the foothills and carried out the rescue operation with five people familiar with the mountain paths. An officer said that due to heavy rain and fog, it was not possible to see far. The police team was constantly in touch with these people through mobile.
With the help of some equipment, these people reached the mountain after about two hours of trekking and found the lost travellers. In the evening, before it got dark, these people started descending rapidly. Meanwhile, the rain slowed down and everyone reached the foothills of the mountain safely. In this regard, Senior Inspector Nitin Thackeray of Panvel City Police Station said that going to an unknown place like this in the rain is very dangerous, so pilgrims should avoid going to such a place.
