New Delhi, 27 September (Hindustan Reporter). Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress President Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday canceled his proposed visit to Tirupati. Telugu Desam Party leaders had asked him to clarify his faith before the journey. Addressing a press conference, he clarified the ongoing controversy over Tirupati Prasadam and said that Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) officials had sent back all the tankers of ghee that failed the test.
It is noteworthy that there is anger across the country over the controversy over animal fat being mixed in the ghee used in the Laddus Prasadam given in the world famous Tirupati temple. Former Chief Minister Reddy, who was at the center of controversy, was scheduled to visit Tirupati on Saturday. However, TDP, Janasena Party and BJP opposed the yatra and asked them to fill forms declaring their faith. Threatened to protest if this was not done.
After this, announcing the postponement of the yatra, Jagan Mohan Reddy addressed a press conference. Jagan Mohan Reddy said that this is the first time in history that someone is being stopped from going to the temple. He had visited Tirupati even before becoming the Chief Minister. After becoming the Chief Minister, he used to go there every year. Jagan said that ghee tankers were being checked earlier in Tirupati. If deficiencies are found during testing, they are returned. It is a process. The tankers whose ghee has been mentioned in the report were returned from the temple. Their ghee was not used at all.
The TTD executive appointed by Chandrababu Naidu said it was confirmed on July 23 that the vegetable oil was adulterated and a notice was issued to the suppliers to show cause, he said. The TTD executive officer later confirmed on September 20 that adulterated ghee was not used to make the laddu prasadam. Even after the Executive Officer has submitted the report, Chandrababu Naidu is spreading false allegations about our party and Hindu sentiments and raising questions about the sanctity of Tirumala Prasad and the temple.
Reddy said that many questions have been raised about his caste. They read the Bible at home within four walls. When outside they respect and follow Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism. They are believers of humanity. The Constitution also says the same? He said that the Chief Minister's counterpart is not allowed to enter the temple, so the question arises as to how Dalits would be treated.
