Youth trapped in 40 feet deep borewell dies, pulled out after 14 hours, police files FIR

A young man, trapped in the pumping room of Delhi Jal Board's Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) in Keshopur area, died late Saturday night after falling into a borewell about 12 inches wide and about 40 feet deep.

A case was registered under section 304 (A) of the IPC

In this case, Delhi Police has registered an FIR on Monday in connection with the death of a youth after falling into a borewell in the sewerage treatment plant of Delhi Jal Board in Keshopur area. Under which an officer said that a case has been registered under Section 304 (A) of IPC at Vikaspuri Police Station and further investigation is going on.

The young man was taken out after 14 hours

The fire department and NDRF team carried out relief and rescue operations for about 14 hours, pulled him out and took him to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police are trying to identify the youth. It has not yet been confirmed why the young man had reached there. An FIR has been registered at Vikaspuri police station and investigation has been started.

The sound was coming from the pumping room

Late on Saturday night, Delhi Jal Board employees heard some noise from the pumping room, when the employees reached there and saw that the door was open and someone was lying in the borewell. There was a sound of something moving and screaming in the water. After which the information was given to the police.

When police and fire department personnel reached the spot, they inserted a rope into the borewell to check that there was no movement. The fire department threw rope several times. The young man was not trying to hold the rope in the borewell and no sound was coming from inside. After which the NDRF team was called.

NDRF team arrived in the morning

On Sunday morning, the NDRF team also tried to take the youth out of the borewell but did not succeed. Due to darkness in the pumping room, nothing was visible. Meanwhile, the team assumed that the young man had become unconscious. Till then they did not know whether the young man was alive or dead. As the sun rose. Another team of NDRF was also called.

In this way the rescue operation continued

On one hand, efforts were being made to bring out the young man alive from the borewell, while on the other hand, in the morning, with the help of a bulldozer, the walls of the pumping room were broken and a pit was started near the borewell. After which the pit was dug rapidly with the help of Hydra at around 10 am on Sunday morning. The excavation was necessary because the team was thinking of getting the young man out alive at any cost.

The team was assuming that if the young man was taken out from the borewell then it was okay. Otherwise they would have dug a 40 feet pit and taken it out. The 40 feet long and 20 feet deep pit had already been dug, but around 3 pm the NDRF team managed to dig a slot made of iron rods inside the borewell and pulled it out.

There were injury marks on the young man's body

Meanwhile he was not breathing. There are injury marks on the youth's body. A police officer said that Vikaspuri police station received information late on Saturday night that a youth had fallen into the borewell built in the STP premises of the Jal Board.

Fire department team and NDRF were called on the spot. He was pulled out of the borewell, but he was dead. His age seems to be between 25 to 35.

Police is taking further action in the matter. The fire officer said that at 1 o'clock on Saturday night he received information about a person falling into a borewell. Five fire brigade vehicles were sent to the spot. The young man was taken out of the borewell at around 3 pm.

Police will investigate how the young man reached inside.

According to police sources, in the call received by the police, it was said that the youth had entered there with the intention of stealing and fell into the borewell. On the other hand, the police is also investigating why the young man had come there. Had he come there with the intention of stealing any item or had he been called by some employee of the plant.

When the caller called to get information about this, his mobile was switched off. The police is investigating from many angles. The police is also investigating from this angle whether the youth had reached there to commit any theft. Besides, the footage of CCTV cameras of the surrounding area is also being checked.
