A Muslim youth was beaten to death on suspicion of cow slaughter in Moradabad district of western Uttar Pradesh. According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kumar Ranvijay Singh, around 3.30 am on Monday, Shahedin (29), a resident of Asalatpura area, was caught by the local people while allegedly slaughtering cow along with three other persons in the Mandi Samiti complex.

• The mob beat Shahedin so badly with sticks and iron rods that he got seriously injured.
• Shahedin, admitted to Moradabad District Hospital, died after 21 hours.
• After post-mortem at night, his last rites were performed in the presence of family members in the morning under tight police security.

• Shahedin’s murder: A case of murder has been registered against unknown people on the complaint of the deceased’s brother Guddu.
