TRAI changing National Numbering Plan: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) can take a big decision soon. Now mobile numbers can be more than 10 digits. Actually, since the arrival of 5G network, there has been a constant problem in mobile numbering. According to media reports, in view of this problem, TRAI has decided to amend the National Numbering Scheme. Let us tell you that earlier in the year 2003 also TRAI had taken a similar decision.
The increasing number of customers has posed a new challenge for mobile companies. Along with this, this service is also increasing continuously. In such a situation, different numbers are being considered. Telecommunication Identifier (TI) is identified with the help of National Numbering Plan and it plays an important role. Now the number of mobile users is increasing continuously.
What is the National Numbering Plan?
The National Numbering Plan plays a vital role in the allocation and management of telecommunication identifiers (TIs) to ensure efficient communications and networking management. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) manages telecommunication identifiers for both fixed and mobile networks.
The National Numbering Plan was designed to allocate 750 million telephone connections in 2003. According to the Ministry of Communications, after 21 years, the number resources are at risk. Let us tell you that currently India has 1,199.28 million telephone subscribers and India's teledensity is set to reach 85.69 percent by March 31, 2024. Due to this, it is difficult to fully utilize the existing number allocation system.
Numbers of new series will be available
Under the new numbering scheme, the Department of Telecommunications will be able to allocate more mobile numbers. This will not cause any problem in issuing numbers to users. Currently, the Department of Telecommunications is asking telecom companies to issue recycled numbers to users.
These are the mobile numbers that a person was using earlier, but telecom companies allocate the number to another user after the SIM remains inactive for more than 90 days. Also, after the new numbering scheme comes, telecom companies can bring new series to issue new numbers.
