You will not contest elections as long as I am alive…: When the Prime Minister threatened to throw his own son out of the house

Former PM Chandrashekhar: BJP has made nepotism a big election issue in politics. This statement of PM troubles the rising stars of Lalu Yadav and Mulayam Singh Yadav's family. Even Congress, which has the distinction of laying the foundation of dynasty rule in politics, is disgusted. Leaders of opposition parties also hit back at the PM's allegations. RJD leader and former Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav had already released a list of nepotism and nepotism of NDA leaders. That list cannot be denied but such allegations against BJP are less, there may be exceptions. Especially after 2022, BJP has made a rule of not giving election tickets to two people from one family. Some people give the example of Rajnath Singh's son Pankaj. This should be considered an exception. Exceptions are always possible in every case. However, BJP's argument regarding Pankaj is that his entry was made in 2017 itself. BJP has hardly given this concession to anyone till 2022.

Congress laid the foundation of dynasty in 1929

Today BJP is strictly following this rule but earlier also many such examples will be found when no leader was ready to bring his children into politics. Karpoori Thakur kept his son away from politics during his lifetime. Long after his death, Nitish Kumar sent his son to Rajya Sabha. Nitish Kumar himself is a big example in Bihar. Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik also entered politics reluctantly. When his father Biju Patnaik passed away, he also entered politics. Earlier socialist leaders never paid attention to this. Prominent socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia used to advise socialists not to marry. The reason behind his thinking might have been that the leaders would be saved from the disease of dynasty rule. The foundation of dynasty rule in politics was laid in 1929, when Motilal Nehru put pressure on Mahatma Gandhi to promote his son Jawahar Lal Nehru. Since the contribution of the Nehru family in the freedom struggle was huge, perhaps Mahatma Gandhi agreed with them. Motilal Nehru had given Anand Bhawan of Allahabad to Congress, hence there was moral pressure on Mahatma Gandhi.

Chandrashekhar was a staunch opponent of dynasty politics

This happened three decades ago. Chandrashekhar contested from two seats in the 1989 Lok Sabha elections. One seat was Ballia in Uttar Pradesh and the other seat was Maharajganj in Bihar. Coincidentally, Chandrashekhar won both the seats. Instead of considering it a coincidence, it would be more appropriate to say that it was the influence of Chandrashekhar's personality. Ballia was his traditional seat but Maharajganj was a new seat for him. However, after winning both the seats, he had to vacate one seat. He retained the Ballia seat and vacated the Maharajganj seat. His son Neeraj Shekhar was lured. He expressed his feelings to Chandrashekhar. Chandrashekhar then replied that his surviving son had given up his dream of contesting elections.

Son clearly refused to contest elections

When Chandrashekhar left the Maharajganj seat, his son Neeraj Shekhar proposed to him. He expressed his wish. He wanted to contest from Maharajganj seat vacated by Chandrashekhar. Hearing this, Chandrashekhar also became equally angry. He flatly refused to do so. And that too not in a normal way, he said in a very strict manner that if you want to contest elections, you will have to accept some of his conditions. Knowing the conditions that Chandrashekhar had set for his son to contest the elections, the hearts of those who hated him till now will once again bow in respect for him.

Chandrashekhar clearly told his son that contesting elections is everyone's right. But for that you will have to leave my house first. This was Chandrashekhar's first move. His second condition was that I will not campaign for you. You will have to win the election on your own. Chandrashekhar also implemented it. He kept his son away from politics as long as he lived. It is a different matter that after the death of Chandrashekhar, son Neeraj Shekhar contested the elections and won. This time BJP has made him its candidate from Ballia in place of Virendra Singh Mast.
