Tel Aviv: Sanctions against Israel are necessary to find a diplomatic and political solution to the Gaza war. Responding strongly to French President Emmanuel Macron's statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, 'He should be ashamed.'
After Macron and other Western leaders called for an arms embargo on Israel, an angry Netanyahu said, 'We will fight even without your weapons.' He also described the ban as tantamount to 'abrogation' of those powers.
Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated in his pre-recorded video that Israel will win this war with or without their support.
Earlier, Macron said on 'France-Inter-Radio', “Our priority is to find a political solution to this dispute (and) that is why we want to ban the supply of weapons used for war.” France will no longer send arms. Our priority is to stop the war from escalating. The people of Lebanon should not be sacrificed along with Gaza.
However, France does not supply many weapons to Israel. It has given arms worth $33 million to Israel last year alone.
Meanwhile, French Foreign Minister Jean-Nouvel-Barre is visiting the Middle East. On Monday he will reach Israel on the last leg of his 4-day visit.
