Uttar Pradesh Kanwar Yatra 2024: The holy month of Shravan for Hindus is starting from 22nd July. Along with this, the Kavad Yatra will also start from the first day of Shravan month. Devotees will start this journey from Haridwar. But before the journey, an order of UP Police has raised a controversy. The Yogi government has issued an order for shopkeepers coming on the Kavad route. The order states that all shops and carts should have their names written on them so that travelers can know from which shop they are buying goods. That is, now whether it is Ghanshyam or Imran, everyone will have to put a name plate outside their hotel-shop.
Why did the Yogi government take this decision?
Amidst all these controversies, CM Yogi has taken steps to ensure that there is no inconvenience in the Kavad Yatra. The Chief Minister's Office has said that 'name plates' will have to be installed on food and drink shops on the Kavad routes across Uttar Pradesh and the name of the owner and his identity will have to be written on the shops. According to the CMO, this decision has been taken to maintain the sanctity of the faith of the Kavad pilgrims. At the same time, action will also be taken against those selling products with Halal certification.
UP minister has openly supported it
UP government minister Kapil Dev Agarwal defended the decision and said that pilgrims from all over the country take water from Haridwar Gaumukh and move towards their destination. During the entire journey they have to come to Muzaffarnagar. It has been observed that some people are naming their shops, dhabas and restaurants after Hindu religion, while they are owned by Muslim people. We do not care if he is a Muslim. The problem comes when he sells non-veg at his shop. They sell meat under names like Hindu Vaishno Dhaba Bhandar, Shakumbhari Devi Bhojanalaya, Shuddh Bhojanalaya. We have a big objection to that. I had demanded from the district administration that the names of the same people should be written on such dhabas. What is wrong in this? Many videos of people spitting on bread and even in restaurants have gone viral.
One order changed the picture of markets in Muzaffarnagar
The police order has changed the picture of the markets in Muzaffarnagar. On this order, the police has clarified that, 'Many people, especially Kawadias, avoid eating certain things in their diet during the holy month of Shravan. There have been incidents in the past as well, where some shopkeepers selling food items have named their shops in such a way that it creates confusion among the Kawadias, to prevent this, keeping in mind the faith of the devotees, hotels, dhabas and food vendors on the route of Kawad Yatra have been requested to voluntarily reveal the names of their owners and the people working there.
The police argue that the purpose of their order is to provide convenience to the devotees and maintain law and order. The effect of this order of UP Police has been seen. In Muzaffarnagar, people put up boards with their names on their shops, hotels and vehicles. The administration argues that this order has been issued to avoid hurting the religious sentiments of the Kawadis. Which the Kawadis also consider appropriate.
The opposition fiercely attacked the government
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi called the order blatantly “discriminatory” and alleged that it showed that the government wanted to make Muslims in Uttar Pradesh and across the country “second class” citizens. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav called the order a “social crime” and asked the courts to take suo motu cognizance of the matter.
