One day, as usual, Hemmali plucked beautiful flowers for worship from Manasarovar early in the morning, but instead of going to the king’s palace, he got attracted by his beautiful wife and stopped straight at his home. Hemamali, busy in fun and laughter with his wife, was not aware of the passing of time.
On the other hand, in the palace, King Kuber sat in front of the throne of Lord Shiva and it was noon, but the flowers did not arrive. When the time for worshiping Mahadev passed, the anger of King Kuber reached its peak. He immediately sent his spies and servants to locate Hemamali.
Terrible curse of King Kuber: The servants returned to the palace and said to the king, “O king! Hemmali has become completely blinded by his love for his wife. Forgetting his duty, he is having fun with his wife at home.” On hearing this, Kuber became red with anger and ordered Hemamali to be presented in the court in chains. As soon as the trembling Hemmali appeared, Kubera roared and said, “Oh sinner! You have grossly disrespected the worship of Mahadev, the god of all my gods. You have deviated from your duty under the influence of lust, therefore I curse you that at this very moment you will suffer the separation of your beloved woman and after going to the mortal world (earth) will become a terrible leper (leper).”
Effect of curse and wandering in the forests
As soon as the curse came out from the mouth of King Kuber, a strong lightning flashed and at that very moment Hemmali fell straight from heaven to earth. Due to the dreadful effect of the curse, her divine and beautiful body started decaying, her skin became infected with leprosy and it started giving off foul smell. His wife Vishalakshi also got separated from him forever.
He started wandering in the dense forests and mountains of the earth, suffering from hunger, thirst and terrible physical pain. However, due to the merit of Shiva worship done in the past, his memory was not destroyed, hence he kept crying tears of repentance for his crime day and night.

Miraculous results and happy ending of fasting
After receiving the permission of the sage, Hemmali observed the fast of Yogini Ekadashi with full rituals, devotion and fasting on the day of Ashadh Ekadashi and did Sankirtan and Jagran at night for the happiness of Lord Narayana.
Due to the virtue of this Mahavrat, all the leprosy in Hemamali’s body was completely eradicated and her skin again became as bright and divine as gold. He regained his old beautiful Yaksha form and returned back to Alkapuri city, where King Kuber also forgave him and he again started living happily with his wife Vishalakshi.
