Lucknow, 24 September. The effect of Yogi government’s zero tolerance policy against drugs is continuously visible in Uttar Pradesh. UP Police and Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) have intensified action against smugglers involved in drug trade and have also tightened the noose on their illegal properties. The arrest action against drug smugglers has gained momentum. In the year 2026, till September 23, action was taken against 71 smugglers in the state under the PIT NDPS Act.
UP DGP Rajiv Krishna said that the aim of the action against drugs is not only to arrest the smugglers, but also to break their entire network and seize the illegal property acquired from the drug trade. Action is being intensified towards the goal of making Uttar Pradesh drug free by the year 2029.
Major action taken in confiscation of illegal property
Emphasis was also laid on breaking the economic back of smugglers by confiscating illegal property earned from drug trade. In the year 2025, assets worth about Rs 19 crore were seized in 29 cases. In the year 2026, till September 23, illegal assets worth about Rs 80 crore were seized in 69 cases.
Yogi government’s strict stance will be shown through continuous action
Under the PIT NDPS Act in the Yogi government, action was taken against seven smugglers in the state in the year 2024, which included five actions of ANTF. Detention action was taken against 19 smugglers in the state in the year 2025 and 71 in the year 2026. Of these, in the year 2026, ANTF took action against 33 smugglers. Action has also increased continuously in cases of illegal property confiscation in the state. In the year 2024, ANTF seized assets worth about Rs 1 crore in four cases. In the year 2025, ANTF took action worth about Rs 17 crore in 28 cases and in the year 2026, action worth about Rs 13 crore was taken in 40 cases. According to the data of the joint action of police and ANTF, the total seizure in the year 2026 was around Rs 78.5 crore.
Direct attack on notorious smugglers’ network
Under the PIT NDPS Act, arrest action has been taken against notorious drug smugglers like Gurumel Singh, Bhola Prasad, Sanjeev Rana, Vibhor Rana, Shermani Patel and Parmanand alias Pappu.

DGP said that our action is not limited to arresting smugglers only. Under Section 68(E) and 68(F) of the NDPS Act, the illicit property acquired from drug trafficking is being first frozen temporarily and then permanently confiscated after investigation and hearing. Through this, smugglers are also being made economically weak.
