The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the new social media policy. The department was trying for a long time to bring a policy in this regard. The government has said that the content posted on social media should not be objectionable and anti-national. The government believes that after the release of this policy, people of UP living in different areas of the country and abroad are likely to get employment. Strict action will also be taken against the agency and firm for posting objectionable content in social media.

UP introduces new social media policy

In the new social media policy of the UP government, posting anti-national content will be punishable with imprisonment ranging from 3 years to life imprisonment. Till now, action was taken under Section 66E and 66F of the IT Act. Apart from this, a criminal defamation case can also be filed for posting objectionable content.

According to the policy issued by the government, X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube have been divided into four categories based on subscribers and followers. The category-wise upper limit for X, Facebook and Instagram account holders, moderators, influencers has been fixed at Rs 5 lakh, Rs 4 lakh, Rs 3 lakh and Rs 3 lakh per month respectively. The payment for videos, shorts, podcasts on YouTube has been fixed at Rs 8 lakh, Rs 7 lakh, Rs 6 lakh and Rs 4 lakh per month respectively.

Under this, they will be encouraged to share content, videos, tweets, posts and reels based on the schemes and achievements of the state government on various social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
