Yogi government’s initiative to take literacy to the masses, 5.10 lakh students took the exam in 75 districts.

Lucknow, 20 September. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, as part of efforts to expand the reach of education to every section of the society in the state, a basic literacy test was conducted on Sunday under the Ulas-Nav Bharat Literacy Programme. About 5.10 lakh students participated in this examination conducted simultaneously in all 75 districts of the state. Along with council schools, examination centers were also set up in prisons and juvenile homes, so that the literacy campaign could be taken to various sections of the society.

It may be noted that the objective of Ullas-Nav Bharat Literacy Program is to provide basic literacy and numeracy knowledge to the illiterate people in the age group of 15 years and above. With the examination held on Sunday, an important phase of this literacy process was completed in all 75 districts of the state. Through this campaign which reached schools, prisons and juvenile homes, efforts have been made to link the basic ability of reading and writing with the essential skills of life.

Literacy tested simultaneously in 75 districts
Basic reading, writing and numerical knowledge of the learners was assessed in the examination conducted under ULAS-Nav Bharat Literacy Programme. The examination was conducted with necessary arrangements at designated centers in all the districts of the state. The participation of approximately 5.10 lakh learners underlined the wide scope of the adult literacy campaign conducted in the state.

Message of literacy reached from school to prison
The specialty of this examination was that the opportunity for literacy was not limited to council schools but also reached prisons and juvenile homes. The examination was also conducted at these locations with the aim of connecting learners from different social backgrounds to basic literacy and numeracy.

Indian Government team inspected in Chandauli and Jaunpur
The Government of India team was present in Chandauli and Jaunpur districts to inspect and monitor the examination. The team inspected the examination centers and took stock of the examination conduct and arrangements.

Monitoring team reached three districts from state headquarters
At the state level, officials from the Directorate of Literacy and Alternative Education/State Literacy Mission Authority, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow also reached different districts and inspected the examination centres. Shri Anil Bhushan Chaturvedi, Education Director Basic/Literacy inspected the examination centers in Lucknow district, Mrs. Neelam, Deputy Director, Literacy in Pratapgarh district and Mrs. Pratima Mishra, Assistant Director, Literacy inspected the examination centers in Sonbhadra district.
