Before the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the government of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has made a huge masterstroke to help lakhs of employees and frontline workers of the state. The state government has taken a historic decision by making health services a major electoral and public interest issue and providing direct benefits to various and important sections of the society. Under this scheme, teachers, Provincial Guard (PRD) personnel, cooks working under PM Poshan Yojana, Anganwadi workers and assistants along with their families are now being provided a security cover of free cashless treatment up to Rs 5 lakh annually. With this step of the government, lakhs of families of the state are expected to get great relief from the financial crisis faced during the treatment of serious diseases.
The scope of ‘Chief Minister Teacher Cashless Medical Scheme’ launched by the state government is being continuously expanded. Under this, more than 1,28,000 teachers and their dependent families working in universities, non-government aided colleges, self-financed courses and private colleges under the Higher Education Department are included. Every eligible family covered under this scheme will get cashless health coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh every year. Through this, patients can get free and quality treatment under more than 1900 types of medical packages including critical illnesses like cancer, heart disease and kidney in empaneled government and private hospitals without any advance payment.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also made a big announcement for the Provincial Guard i.e. PRD soldiers, who play an important role in maintaining security and order. Under the ‘Chief Minister PRD Cashless Medical Scheme’, more than 31,000 PRD volunteers and their families in the state are being provided free and cashless treatment facility up to Rs 5 lakh every year. According to the statistics of average family, more than 1.5 lakh people are getting direct benefit from this scheme. This facility will be easily available to the soldiers in all government and government empaneled private hospitals, so that they will not have to worry about money during emergency treatment.
Yogi government has also opened the treasury for the cook sisters and Anganwadi workers and helpers who are providing services at the grassroots level in rural and urban areas. Along with increasing the honorarium of cooks who prepare rotis and food for children in council schools by Rs 1,000 per month under the PM Nutrition Scheme, their entire family has been given a gift of cashless treatment worth up to Rs 5 lakh. Along with this, the honorarium of Anganwadi workers has been increased from Rs 8,000 to Rs 12,000 and the honorarium of helpers has been increased from Rs 4,000 to Rs 6,000. By linking all these frontline workers with an annual cashless health insurance of up to Rs 5 lakh along with an increase in honorarium, the double engine government has created a strong social security circle.
