Yashpal Sharma wins Best Director Award for Haryanvi feature film Dada Lakhmi

Mandi, 1 July (HS). The four-day first Himachal International Film Festival sponsored by local sponsor Ratan Jewelers concluded at Sanskruti Sadan in Kangnidhar, Mandi. Onkar Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary of the State Government, attended the event as the chief guest. He awarded the best films, actors and others during the film festival. In this four-day Himachal International Film Festival, about fifty films of Indian cinema were shown at the Sanskruti Sadan as well as the auditorium at Salgi of IIT Mandi. Apart from Himachali directors, Haryanvi, Marathi, Assamese, Kannada, Hindi short movies and documentaries etc. were shown.

On this occasion, besides renowned film actors Akhilendra Mishra, Sanjay Mishra, Yashpal Sharma, Rajesh Jaish, Neeraj Sood, Sapna, Pihu and Gagan Pradeep, around fifty producer-directors from across the country also participated in the film festival with their films.

Festival director Pawan Sharma said that till date his experience has been that of attending film festivals organised by others as a guest. But organising a film festival in his own city has been a different experience. He said that in this first Himachal film festival organised in Mandi, films from across the country were screened. Films made in Himachal and produced by Himachal producers and directors were also screened.

Apart from discussions on films, artists from outside also expressed their frank opinion on the possibility of film industry in Himachal.

On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary Himachal Government Omkar Sharma said that it is easy to organize a film festival in Shimla, Kullu-Manali and Dharamshala. Because these places have better residential facilities and transportation facilities are also available. But organizing such an event in a city like Mandi is an achievement in itself.

He said that Mandi is not only a small Kashi but is also a cultural city of the state. Along with the people who are experts in theatre, literature and culture, there are also people who are proficient in these fields. He said that there are immense possibilities for the film industry to flourish in Himachal. While the Himachal Film Policy is under consideration of the state government.

Omkar Sharma called the film festival a great initiative for Mandi and Himachal Pradesh. He said that people from the film industry visited various places in Mandi district for four days and admired the beauty of this place. In future, these people will come here and shoot their films, which is likely to give new wings to the tourism business of the state. Actors Akhilendra Mishra, Rojesh Jaish and Yashpal Sharma also stressed that Himachal should not copy anyone but create its own global identity through its own stories.

The next film festival will be even more grand: Raja Singh Malhotra of Rattan Jewelers, the sponsor of Himachal International Film Festival, said that this was the first time that such a film festival was organised in Mandi. But next year it will be organised in an even more grand manner. He said that his music company will provide an opportunity to Himachali artists to showcase their talent at the national and international level.

Received the award for being the best

On this occasion Yashpal Sharma received the Best Director award for directing the Haryanvi feature film Dada Lakhmi. The Best Actor award in a negative role was given to Ram Bahadur Renu of Jacken Holt film, and the Best Actor award was given to Tanuj Virvaini of the short film Naam Mein Kya Rakhha Hai. Mukesh Kumar Singh received the Best Director award for the short film Mera Pyara Ghar, while Mukesh Kumar Singh's short film Bruno received the Best Short Film award.

Best Documentary Ishaan for New Year in India, Best Debut Director Short Film Chitta Dinesh Bhardwaj, Best Editor Chattan Ka Jagran Abhinav Chhabra, Best Cinematography Short Film I Am Not Disappointed, Best Actor Short Film Saas-Saas Rajneshwar Chauhan, Best Story Short Film Keel SR Harnot, Best Director Sudip Kapoor Short Film Chhatra Kaachi Mitti and Best Actor Short Film Happan Sangwala Rajendra Gupta Comilla.

Apart from this, Best Director Short Film Bhookh Ke was given to Saikat Bagban, Best Actress Feature Film The Rabbit House Karishma, Best Supporting Actor Male Feature Film The Rabbit House Gagan Pradeep, Similarly Best Feature Film Jury Special Mention was given to The Rabbit House, Best Director Jury Special Mention Feature Film Navras Katha Mahavidyalaya, Best Film Jury Special Mention Short Film Kathakaar, Best Actor Feature Film Darmiyan Pyar Aur Chahat Ki Ek Kahani Satyen Chaturvedi, Best Animation Film Short Film Yodha Lachit, Best Jury Special Mention Regional Feature Film Baya Ke Galu Beruridaga, Best Short Film Bheed, Best Children Feature Film Pravas, Best Child Actor Feature Film Pravas was given to Vishal Thakkar.

Similarly, Best Jury Special Mention Short Film Panchva Pratha, Best Screen Play Short Film Panchva Pratha, Best Director Regional Feature Film Antim Samman Rosy Bora, Best Director Short Film Jury Special Mention Gajra Suman Guha, Best Actor Male, Short Film Gajra Vipin Bhardwaj, Best Actress Jury Special Mention Short Film Gajra Veronica Verma and Critic’s Choice Documentary Ishan Bharat Mein Naya Saal.
