Gavaskar had earlier scored 1013 runs in a Test at home in 1979. But now Yashasvi Jaiswal has broken Gavaskar's record by scoring 1024 runs till lunch in the match being played against New Zealand. He also became the Indian player to score the most runs in Tests at home in a calendar year.
Apart from this, Yashasvi Jaiswal hit a powerful six off New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee in India's second innings itself. With this successful six, Yashasvi became the first Indian batsman to hit 30 sixes in a calendar year in Tests. This is such a record which even legendary batsmen like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli could not achieve.
