Yash Mumbai Eagles reach top spot; Hyderabad Strikers finish second, fight for top four intensifies

Mumbai, 7 December (Hindustan Reporter). Yash Mumbai Eagles moved to the top of the table after completing a clean sweep against Chennai Smashers in the ongoing Tennis Premier League (TPL) Season 6 at the Cricket Club of India, Mumbai on Friday.

With the battle for the qualification spots heating up, the first game took place between Bengal Wizards and Gujarat Panthers.

The day started with a thrilling match between Ekaterina Kazionova and Kamila Rakhimova, in which Kamila Rakhimova won 13-12 in the women’s singles category. ​​Sumit Nagal defeated Nikki Poonacha by the score of 16-9 in the men’s singles category.

In the mixed doubles category, Bengal Wizards pair of Kamila Rakhimova and Sriram Balaji won 15-10 against Ekaterina Kazionova and Siddhant Banthia. In the first match, Sriram Balaji and Nikki Poonacha won against Sumit Nagal and Siddhant Banthia in a thrilling game by the score of 13-12. However, Gujarat Panthers won the match by winning 51–49.

The second match of the day was played between Chennai Smashers and Yash Mumbai Eagles. Zeynep Sonmez gave Yash Mumbai Eagles the lead by defeating her opponent Connie Perrin 16-9 in the women’s singles. Karan Singh also won his game against Hugo Gaston by the score of 14-11.

The mixed doubles encounter was a thrilling one with Yash Mumbai Eagles winning the game thanks to Zeynep Sonmez and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan who defeated Connie Perrin and Rithvik Choudhary Bolipalli by the score of 13-12. Karan Singh and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan defeated Hugo Gaston and Ritwik Chaudhary Bolipalli by 15-10 in the men’s doubles category to give Yash Mumbai Eagles a clean sweep by 58-42.

In the third match, Punjab Patriots faced Rajasthan Rangers in the second half. In the women’s singles category, Alina Avanesyan of Punjab Patriots defeated Christina Dinu of Rajasthan Rangers by the score of 15-10. Rajasthan Rangers’ Arthur Ferry dominated Mukund Sasikumar of Punjab Patriots to win the men’s singles event by a score of 16-9.

In mixed doubles, Punjab Patriots’ Alina Avanesyan and Saketh Myneni won a tough match against Christina Dinu and Rohan Bopanna with a score of 13-12.

In the men’s doubles category, Rohan Bopanna and Arthur Ferry of Rajasthan Rangers defeated Mukund Sasikumar and Saketh Myneni of Punjab Patriots by a narrow score of 13-12, giving Rajasthan Rangers a win with the final score of 51-49.

In the last match of the day, Bengaluru SG Pipers faced Hyderabad Strikers. Making her debut in the women’s singles, Bengaluru SG Pipers’ Gabriella Knutson won against in-form Harriet Dart by a score of 13-12.

In the men’s singles category, Bernabe Zapata Miralles kept the momentum going for Bengaluru SG Pipers by defeating Benjamin Lock of Hyderabad Strikers by a score of 15-10. Gabriella Natesan and Anirudh Chandrasekhar of Bengaluru SG Pipers defeated Harriet Dart and Vishnu Vardhan of Hyderabad Strikers 13-12 in the mixed doubles category.

In men’s doubles, Benjamin Lock and Vishnu Vardhan won 13-12 in another tight match against Bernabe Zapata Miralles and Anirudh Chandrasekhar. ​​Bengaluru SG Pipers won the match with the score of 53-47, concluding an exciting day.

At the end of the fourth day, Yash Mumbai Eagles topped the points table with 215 points. Hyderabad Strikers are in second place with 211 points. Rajasthan Rangers are at the third position, followed by Gujarat Panthers at the fourth position with 205 and 201 points.

Bengaluru SG Pipers and Punjab Patriots are placed fifth with 198 points each. Chennai Smashers have slipped to seventh place with 190 points, while Bengal Wizards are in last place with 182 points.
