Yamal became the youngest scorer, broke Pele's 66-year-old record – News India Live

16-year-old Laman Yamal has become the footballer who has achieved the feat of becoming the youngest goal scorer in the history of the Euro Cup football tournament. With the help of goals from Yamal and Dani Olmo, Spain reached the final of the Euro Cup 2024 football tournament by defeating France 2-1 in the first semi-final in Munich.

Yamal became the youngest footballer to score 362 goals at the age of 16. He broke Pele's 66-year-old record. Brazilian legend Pele scored in the 1958 World Cup at the age of 17 years and 239 days. Apart from this, Spain became the first team to win six consecutive matches in a major tournament. Earlier, Brazil had won seven consecutive matches in the World Cup and Euro Cup combined in 2002. Randall Kolo Muani gave France a 1-0 lead by converting Kylian Mbappe's cross pass into a goal in the ninth minute. Spain, who had conceded only one goal in the last five matches in the tournament, turned the tables by scoring two goals in four minutes. Yamal will celebrate his 17th birthday a day before the Euro Cup final. In the final, Spain will face the winner of the second semi-final between England and the Netherlands. Spain is just one win away from a record fourth title.

France, finalists in three of the last four major tournaments, have missed out on a place in the final despite an aggressive forward line. Coach Dida Deschamps has consistently given Ousmane Dembele a chance instead of preferring Antoine Griezmann. On the other hand, Mbappe continued to play despite not being fit. Apart from scoring a goal in the tournament, Yamal assisted his teammates three times.
