This year's Nobel Prize for Literature has been won by South Korean writer Han Kang. The Nobel Committee said Han Kang was awarded the honor for his poignant poetic prose that confronts historical trauma and highlights the fragility of human life. Han Kang, 53, won the Booker Prize in 2016 for his novel 'The Vegetarian'.

He comes from a family with a literary background. His father was also a famous novelist. Han Kang made his literary debut in 1993. His literary works include 10 novels, a collection of short stories and an anthology. His latest novel 'I Do Not Bid Farewell' was awarded the Médicis Prize in France in 2023 and the Emile Guimet Prize this year. A total of 116 Nobel Prizes for Literature have been awarded since 1901, four of which have been shared among multiple winners. So far 17 women have won the Nobel Prize for Literature.
