The ever-increasing communal tension and violence against minorities in Bangladesh is showing no sign of stopping. In the latest cases, two innocent Hindus, including a Hindu gold trader and a woman, have been brutally murdered in two separate violent incidents in different parts of the country. Since these sensational incidents came to light, an atmosphere of immense panic, insecurity and anger has arisen among the minority Hindu communities living in Bangladesh. The way minorities are being systematically targeted in Bangladesh for some time, has once again raised serious question marks on international human rights organizations and the security system within the country.
The first painful incident of violence in Bangladesh has come to light from Mahadevpur Upazila of Naogaon district. Alif Chandra Dutta, a 45-year-old Hindu gold businessman living here, has been made the victim of bloody violence by unknown assailants. According to the information received, this dreadful incident took place on Monday night when Alif Chandra Dutta was returning home after closing his jewelery shop. According to the report published in Bangladesh’s prestigious newspaper ‘Daily Sun’ and statements of the local police, Dutta had left his jewelery shop located in Mahadevpur market at around 8:30 pm. When he reached very close to his house in Dulalpara area at around 9 pm, an armed gang of attackers sitting in ambush suddenly surrounded him and attacked him with sharp weapons.
The brutality of the attackers did not stop here. According to the report, crossing the limits of cruelty, the miscreants looted all the gold and about 7 lakh Bangladeshi Taka in cash from Alif Chandra Dutta and fled from the spot taking advantage of the darkness. After this sudden fatal attack, family members and local people immediately reached the spot and saved the seriously injured Dutta and immediately admitted him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment. However, despite all the efforts of the doctors, he died during treatment in the hospital due to serious injuries. Confirming this sensational case, Umar Farooq, officer in charge of Mahadevpur police station, told the media that the police is deeply investigating whether this incident was done only with the intention of looting or there was some deep communal rivalry or other malicious motive hidden behind it. Police have started legal action in this regard.
The second heart-wrenching incident has come to light from Maheshkhali upazila of Cox’s Bazar district. Here, 45-year-old Hindu woman Rani Sushil (Rani Sushil), living in Honok Union, was brutally stabbed to death inside her own house. This tragic incident happened around 7:30 pm on Monday evening when an unknown and vicious intruder entered their house with the nefarious intention of stealing. According to the report published in Bangladeshi Bengali daily newspaper ‘Prothom Alo’, Rani Sushil was busy cooking food in the kitchen of her house at the time of the incident. Then suddenly an unknown person secretly entered their house. As soon as the queen saw the intruder, she immediately started shouting loudly to protect herself and her family.
According to preliminary information given by the local people and the police, when Rani Sushil saw the unknown intruder in the house, instead of getting scared, she showed courage and started shouting ‘thief, thief’. Fearing that his theft would be caught, the dreaded intruder immediately moved forward and brutally grabbed the queen’s face tightly so that she could not make any more noise. After this, the brutal attacker brutally stabbed him several times with a sharp knife and fled from the spot, leaving him in a blood-soaked condition. When people gathered nearby after this attack, they immediately took the injured Rani to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex, where after a few hours the doctors declared her dead. These two latest and gruesome murders in Bangladesh are not isolated incidents, but are part of a long and horrific series that is increasingly out of control in the country. Just a few days before these incidents, a retired Hindu teacher Ganpati Chakraborty and three other members of his family were brutally murdered inside their house in Rangpur city of Bangladesh. For some time now, there have been increasing attacks on minority Hindu communities, their religious places, properties and lives in Bangladesh. Human rights activists say that this process of atrocities on minorities, which started during the tenure of the previous interim government, continues unabated even during the current Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) regime, due to which the minorities are feeling completely helpless and unsafe among the majority population there. Even at the international level, the Bangladesh government is being demanded to immediately take strict and concrete steps to ensure the safety of minorities, otherwise the social fabric there will completely disintegrate.
