WPL 2024: War between these three teams in the race for playoffs, know the complete equation

The second season of the Women's Premier League has reached exciting mode. The RCB team, which looked in very poor form in the first season, is struggling in the current season as well. After winning the first two consecutive matches, the team captained by Smriti Mandhana is now in trouble. In the match played on Sunday, Delhi Capitals defeated Bangalore by 1 run. After this, the team's next match is do or die against Mumbai Indians. Last season's runners-up Delhi Capitals and defending champions Mumbai Indians are competing for the top spot.

Exciting battle in the points table

Gujarat Titans is the only team which is currently out of the playoff race. The biggest threat to RCB is from UP Warriors. Currently, Delhi Capitals is on top in the points table and Mumbai Indians is in second place. Both the teams are tied with 10 points after 7-7 matches. But Delhi's net run rate is 0.918. While Mumbai Indians is at second place with 0.343. But Q is written in front of the names of both these teams. That means both these teams will definitely play the playoffs.

How different is the WPL playoffs from the IPL?

Actually there are three matches to be held in IPL playoff. It consists of two qualifiers and one eliminator. But IPL is a tournament of 10 teams. But five teams participate in the Women's Premier League. Here, the team that tops the points table at the end of the league stage goes straight to the finals. A playoff takes place between the second and third place teams and is called the Eliminator. The winner of this match reaches the final and faces the first placed team in the title match. Whereas the losing team is directly out.

How can RCB reach the playoffs?

Now if we talk about RCB, then to make it to the playoffs, they will first have to win the last match against Mumbai Indians. The defending champions will also not take that match lightly as they will have to win it to go straight to the finals. Even if RCB wins this match, the margin of victory will also make a difference. Because RCB is at third place with 6 points and UP Warriors is at fourth place with just 6 points.

UP's last match will be against Gujarat Giants, the bottom-placed team in the points table. If both UP and RCB win their respective last matches, then the team with better run rate will go to the playoffs and the fourth-placed team will be out. At present, RCB's net run rate is 0.027 and UP's net run rate is -0.365.
