On 14 August 2010, the world's longest traffic jam occurred on the Beijing-Tibet Expressway. The jam was so long that people were stuck in vehicles for 12 days. They ate there, drank there and even had to sleep in the traffic jam. This traffic jam was caused by trucks carrying coal and construction material from Mongolia to Beijing. At that time, the Beijing-Tibet Expressway was under construction. Due to which vehicles could not pass. Due to the ongoing work on the expressway, the traffic has been made one-way. Trucks carrying construction material from Mongolia to Beijing blocked the exit from Beijing. The jam became so long that it took 12 days for the administration to clear the jam.

Vehicle defects –
The expressway was still being built, and the fleet of trucks carrying coal from Mongolia could not pass through the road. Many vehicles also broke down, blocking the road. The jam was such that the vehicles stuck there could cover only 1 kilometer in a day.

Houses had to be built for people stuck in the traffic jam-
The jam lasted so long that temporary houses were built on the side of the expressway for people traveling in cars and small vehicles and seeing the crowd of vehicles, food stalls were also opened there. Snacks, cold drinks, noodles and food were sold at four times the price. People were forced to buy water at 10 times the price.

When did the jam open?
The administration had closed all the roads on this route to remove the jam. First of all, the trucks stuck in the jam were removed. Work was done day and night to remove the people stuck there and finally on 26 August 2010, the world's biggest traffic jam ended.
