The situation in the African country Kenya is very difficult due to heavy rains and floods. At least 13 people have died so far. Whereas more than 15 thousand people have become homeless. Cities and villages are submerged in rain water. Traffic has come to a standstill due to water logging on roads and railway tracks.
Have been displaced. Roads, streets and people's houses have been flooded. Vehicles and people are trapped in floods at many places. Relief has not reached many people. Life has become chaotic. Meteorologists have predicted more rain till June.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, citing the Kenya Red Cross Society, said on Thursday that about 20,000 people had been affected by the rains. This includes about 15,000 people displaced by heavy rains and flooding across the country since mid-March. Thousands of people died in floods in the East African country last rainy season.
Lost contact with many people
The Kenya Red Cross Society said floods had cut off five major roads from the rest of the country, including Garissa Road in northern Kenya, where a bus carrying 51 passengers was washed away on Tuesday. All the passengers were rescued safely. Kenya's disaster management agency has issued a flood warning to residents of Lamu, Tana River and Garissa counties and urged them to evacuate. According to the Meteorological Department, the rainy season will reach its peak by the end of April and the rains will start reducing in June.
