World Chess Championship: Ding Liren defeated Gukesh and leveled the game

New Delhi, 09 December (Hindustan Reporter). Ding Liren has made a tremendous comeback in Game 12 of the World Chess Championship 2024. Liren has again leveled the series by defeating D Gukesh. Currently both the players have 6.0 and 6.0 points. Whichever player scores seven and a half points first will win the championship.

Reigning world champion Ding Liren of China made a swift comeback after defeating India’s D Gukesh with the white pieces in the 12th game of the World Chess Championship 2024 at the Resort World Sentosa in Singapore on Monday. The victory, achieved through small moves, also helped Ding restore parity in the World Championship Series. After 12 rounds the championship is tied at 6.0 – 6.0. Earlier on Sunday, Gukesh had registered a victory over Ding, which gave him the lead in the championship for the first time.

In the game Ding opened with c4 and Gukesh replied with e6 to play the Neo-Catalan Defense of the English Opening. Although Ding trailed Gukesh by 30 minutes till the ninth move, he then dug deep into position to give himself a free-flowing set-up and gradually secured a much-needed victory on demand. The Chinese played with impeccable accuracy to put Gukesh under immediate pressure.
