Mumbai – Vigorous action to demolish 41 illegal houses has started today in Agarwal Nagar, east of Nalasopara. Due to this, 2500 families rendered homeless have come on the streets.
The residents of these unauthorized houses approached the High Court and the Supreme Court. However, he did not get any relief. In Nalasopara East, 41 houses were built illegally on 60 acres of land. In this, former corporator of Bahujan Vikas Aghadi, Sitaram Gupta, allegedly occupied 30 acres of private land and built a house. Gupta was arrested by the Economic Offenses Wing last September.
Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation yesterday issued the final eviction notices to the residents of these 41 houses. After this, demolition work was started from today in the presence of heavy police force. Municipality sources said that the demolition work of these four-storey houses will be completed in nine days. Demolition was to take place before the assembly elections. However, residents got temporary relief after the rule that voters cannot be displaced after the elections was passed.
There was a big plot of 30 acres in Agrawal Nagar of Nalasopara-East. Some plots were reserved for private use and some plots were reserved for garbage dumping grounds and sewage plants. It is alleged that in 2006, former councilor Sitaram Gupta and his nephew Arun Gupta had captured this land. Between 2010 and 2012, 41 illegal buildings were constructed on this land by making fake Construction Permission (CC) and Occupancy Certificate (OC). More than two thousand families live in it. The Bombay High Court as well as the Supreme Court declared these buildings unauthorized and directed the Municipal Corporation to take action.
