Woman held hostage by agent in Dubai rescued

Mumbai: A 29-year-old woman, who was held hostage by an agent in Dubai, was rescued by a team of Bharosa Cell of Mira-Bhayander Vasai Virar police with the help of Indian embassy staff, an official said.

Tejashree Shinde, a woman assistant inspector of the Bharosa cell of MBVV police, said that 'Delhi agent Tarun (age 40) offered the victim Naina (name changed) a job as a receptionist in a hotel in Dubai and a salary of Rs. 70 thousand. Through this agent, she went to Dubai on 8 April.

'After reaching Dubai, the agent took away her passport and visa. She was kept in a hotel with 40-50 women.

The two were cheated after being offered a job as a receptionist in Dubai.

The victim was not well. She wanted to come to India later. But the agent forced her to work for at least six months. Her salary was also stopped. The family asked the agent to send Naina back. The agent did not listen to them.

Finally, on June 3, the matter was reported to the police. A team from the Bharosa Cell of the police contacted the Indian Ambassador in Dubai through proper channels. The officials there spoke to the owner of the hotel where the woman worked.

Thus the woman was contacted and brought back safely to India.
