SBI has recently come to glory after the Supreme Court dismissed the electoral bond case. SBI has given the bond data to the Election Commission.
State Bank of India has handed over the complete data to the Election Commission at 5.30 pm on Tuesday. Bar and Bench gave this information on social media platform X.
The Election Commission said that it will upload this complete data by March 15. The Election Commission will also make public the purchase of electoral bonds, which till now were deposited in the Supreme Court only in sealed envelopes.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Bar Association has written a letter to the President in the electoral bond case. It said that the government should take legal opinion from the President and till then the Supreme Court decision should not be implemented.
Earlier, a hearing was held in the Supreme Court on Monday on SBI's application in the matter related to giving information on electoral bonds. SBI was asking for more time from the Supreme Court. On this, CJI DY Chandrachud asked what have you done in 26 days after the last hearing?
A five-judge bench headed by DY Chandrachud rejected SBI's plea to extend the data disclosure deadline till June 30. While giving the verdict, the bench asked SBI to give all the information by March 12. The Election Commission will have to collect all the information and publish it on the website by 5 pm on March 15.
The Supreme Court told SBI that if it fails to comply with its instructions and timelines, the court can take action against it for willful disobedience.
Let us tell you that earlier on February 15, the Supreme Court, while giving a historic decision, had canceled the electoral bond scheme of the Center and declared it unconstitutional. Those giving and taking bonds were ordered to declare by March 13.
