Warsaw, 18 October. Wim Fiset of Belgium has become the coach of world number one player Iga Swiatek. Swiatek, who is preparing for the WTA Finals, gave the above information in an official statement on Thursday.

In early October, Swiatek parted ways with coach Tomasz Wiktarowski. She withdrew from the Wuhan Open stating that she was focusing on making changes to her coaching staff. Swiatek also missed tournaments in Seoul and Beijing. She last played in early September, when she lost to Jessica Pegula in the US Open quarterfinals.

“I look forward to working with Wim,” Swiatek, 23, said in a statement. I think his approach, vision is very good, and his added asset is vast experience at the highest level in tennis. Of course, it is always important to get to know each other better, but our collaboration is off to a great start. I can't wait to get back to competing.”

“I am currently preparing for the WTA Finals, but my view of my career has always been long-term,” she said. I've mentioned many times that this is a marathon for me, not a sprint. I work and take decisions keeping this thinking in mind.”

Fiset has previously worked with Angelique Kerber and many other top players. The German won Wimbledon under his guidance in 2018. The 44-year-old also helped develop the career of Naomi Osaka, who won the US Open in 2020 and the Australian Open in 2021.

“I am very excited to work with Inga and join their team,” said Fiset. Because of the constant intensity with which she plays and focus on work, she is a role model for many female players. I hope we both improve and strive to fulfill our sporting dreams.”
