NEET UG Result: A tough exam like NEET is conducted for admission to undergraduate courses in medical colleges. A press conference was held by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday amid the uproar and demand for a CBI inquiry after alleged irregularities in the results of the medical entrance exam NEET.
The inquiry committee will submit its report within a week
It was said in this press conference that the Ministry of Education has constituted a four-member committee to investigate the grace marks case. This committee headed by the former chairman of UPSC will submit its report within a week.
NTA said that giving grace marks to students does not make any difference to the result or eligibility criteria. NTA also rejected the allegations of paper leak.
We will take a decision based on the committee's recommendation
NTA DG Subodh Kumar Singh said, 'This is a matter of only 1600 students. Whereas more than 23 lakh students had given the paper. In which only 6 centers are included instead of 4750 centers. The committee will investigate the grace marks and time loss given to these 1600 students. If necessary, their results can be corrected. After the NEET result, this will not affect the admission process of various medical courses including MBBS and BDS. We will take a decision according to whatever recommendations come from the committee.'
Protocols and standards will be further strengthened
Regarding the allegation of paper leak, the officials said that the paper which came on social media came after the examination started. Therefore, now we will try to strengthen our protocols and standards in future so that such a mistake does not happen again.
Marks were increased by giving grace marks
In the press conference, Subodh Kumar Singh said, our committee held a meeting on the issue of wastage of time. They studied all the details of the centers and CCTV. In which it was found that the time of the students was wasted at some centers, this should be compensated. Therefore, some students were given grace marks and their marks were increased. Due to which some candidates got 718 and 719 marks and 6 candidates became toppers.
This happened due to wrong distribution of question papers
Subodh Kumar Singh further said, we have declared the results after carefully analyzing everything. Out of 4750 centers, there is a problem at only 6 centers. Also, out of 23 lakh students, only 1600 students faced this problem. In which this happened due to wrong distribution of question papers at six centers.
There will be inquiries about the lack of time
Candidates allege that they were given less time. To which we have replied in the High Court that we have formed a grievance redressal committee of experts. Which will investigate the report of the examination center, CCTV footage and details of the wastage of time. There was no compromise on the transparency of this examination across the country. No paper was leaked. The entire examination process was extremely transparent.
What is the whole matter?
After 67 students scored 720 out of 720 marks in NEET and the cutoff suddenly skyrocketed, thousands of students, parents and coaching operators are alleging paper leak.
The House demanded a judicial probe into the recent clarification given by the NTA as the Congress did not find it tenable. Several NEET candidates have alleged that their ranks and marks have been adversely affected due to the NEET paper leak.
Candidates are continuously posting on social media with hashtags NEET scam, cancel NEET exam and NEET result re-release. NTA says that the number of toppers has increased due to NCERT textbooks and giving grace marks.
