Expressway Toll News: Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has said many times that he will remove toll plazas from the roads in the coming years. Now NHAI is going to take a big initiative in this direction. Applications have been invited from banks for the country's first Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll collection on Dwarka Expressway. If this plan is successful then the only toll plaza on Dwarka Expressway will also be eliminated. Banks will deduct money on the basis of your vehicle data.
How will this system work?
NHAI's new toll system will be based on sensors and field devices. It will send data to the bank when vehicles pass. After which the bank will deduct the money. After this system becomes effective, there will be no need for any other toll operator.
How will banks work?
Indian banks have no experience in direct toll collection. In such a situation, NHAI's subsidiary company IHMCL (NHAI's organization which looks after the work of toll collection) has given permission to the sub-contractor to complete this work. According to the tender, the sub-contractor should have at least 200 kilometers and 10 years of experience in installing multi-lane free flow based toll systems in India or abroad.
Will Fastag also end?
From what has come to light so far, it seems that Fastag will continue. The new system will collect information from the vehicle's database and send it to the bank. The bank will deduct the money from the Fastag wallet. If toll is not paid, this vehicle will remain visible on the portal and app. Also, payment of outstanding amount for NOC and fitness certificate will be mandatory.
Will Dwarka Expressway's sole toll be scrapped?
There is toll on the 28 km long Dwarka Expressway at the Delhi-Gurgaon border. Vehicles have to pay toll only when they pass through this toll. But after the implementation of this new system the situation will change. Let us tell you, the successful bidder will get a contract for 3 years. At the same time, they will have to install their system within 3 months.
NHAI is preparing to install multi-lane free flow system on many more expressways. The organization believes that since the banks are under the supervision of the Reserve Bank of India, the system there will be more transparent.
