Where will the next season be played?
The next season of the T20 World Cup will be played in 2026 under the hosting of India and Sri Lanka. There was a discussion that just like 48 teams have been given entry in the Football World Cup-2026, similarly ICC will give entry to 24 teams in the T20 World Cup-2026. Just like in the 2024 T20 World Cup, 4 groups of 5 teams were formed. Similarly, in the next World Cup, 4 groups of 6 teams will be formed.
ICC made it clear
Putting an end to the debate, ICC officials have clarified that only 20 teams will participate in the next edition to be held in 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. There is no discussion at the moment on what will happen in their future seasons. After 2026, the next edition of the tournament is scheduled in Australia and New Zealand in 2028. After this, the UK, Scotland and Ireland will host the T20 World Cup in 2030.
Teams participating in T20 World Cup 2026
Both teams will be allowed to host the T20 World Cup 2026 to be held in India and Sri Lanka. Apart from this, the teams reaching the Super-8 group of T20 World Cup 2024 will also get direct entry. This will include teams from India, Australia, South Africa, West Indies, England, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and USA. 3 teams will get entry through T20 Cricket International Ranking, which currently includes teams from Pakistan, New Zealand and Ireland. Including all these, a total of 12 teams will get direct entry into the tournament. The remaining 8 teams will have to go through the qualifying round.
