The Delhi High Court has taken strict action against Wikipedia in a contempt case. The court said that it will ask the government to block Wikipedia in India. The court's strong comment has come in the case of ANI, in which despite the court's order, Wikipedia's order has not been implemented yet. Regarding this, ANI has filed a defamation case against Wikipedia.
What is the whole matter?
Some people edited ANI's page on Wikipedia and published controversial information. The edited post said that ANI was being used as a propaganda tool for the current government. ANI complained about this. The court ordered Wikipedia to provide information about the three people who had edited the page. But Wikipedia did not follow the order, for which ANI again approached the Delhi High Court. ANI said that the court's order was not followed.
What happened in the court today?
Today, when the hearing started in the Delhi High Court, the court asked why the order was not being followed? Then Wikipedia's lawyer told the court that he had to put some things before the court regarding the court order. This took time because Wikipedia is not located in India.
The court expressed displeasure over this and said that we will file a contempt case. The question here is not that Wikipedia is not located in India but the question is why the court order was not followed. The court warned, “We will stop your business transactions here.” We will ask the government to block Wikipedia. The court said that earlier you people argued here. But if you do not like India then please do not work in India.
