News India Live, Digital Desk: ‘Draupadi Cheer Haran’ was the dark chapter in the story of Mahabharata, which laid the foundation of the disastrous war of Kurukshetra. When Dushasan started pulling Draupadi’s saree in the gathering, she became unconscious. Dushasana fell down exhausted, but the saree did not end. People often ask how Lord Krishna did this miracle? Was there only devotion behind it or was there some old ‘karma’ also involved?

1. Krishna’s finger and Draupadi’s pallu (revenge of debt)

According to the most popular story, once at the time of killing Shishupala, Lord Krishna’s finger was cut by Sudarshan Chakra and it started bleeding.

Draupadi’s sacrifice: Everyone present there started searching for the bandage, but Draupadi, without thinking, tore the pallu of her precious silk saree and tied it on Krishna’s finger.

Krishna’s words: Then Shri Krishna said to Draupadi, “O friend! I will repay the debt of each and every thread of this silk when the time comes.” At the time of disrobing, Krishna kept his promise by converting each thread of the same pallu into a mile long saree.

2. Boon of sage Durvasa (result of donating clothes)

According to another lesser known legend, once Maharishi Durvasa was bathing in the Ganges and suddenly his loincloth got swept away in the water.

Draupadi’s help: Draupadi, standing nearby, tore a part of her saree and gave it to the sage so that he could cover his shame.

Boon: Sage Durvasa was pleased and gave a boon to Draupadi that ‘Your clothes will never fall short in times of trouble.’ The same boon appeared in the midst of the gathering in the form of ‘Akshaya Vastra’.

3. Radha Rani herself became ‘Sari’! (spiritual mystery)

According to some Puranas and Vaishnava beliefs, when Draupadi raised both her hands “O Govind! Resident of Dwarka!” When he called out, Krishna did not appear there in person, rather he absorbed his power in his clothes.

Embodiment of Shakti: It is said that at that time Draupadi’s saree itself became the form of Radha Rani (Hladini Shakti). Since the divine power is infinite, a demon like Dushasana could not end that infinite power.

Draupadi’s Call: The Power of Surrender

This incident of tearing teaches us that while Draupadi tried to save herself (by biting the saree with her teeth), help did not come. But as soon as he complete surrender (calling by raising both hands), God immediately came running to protect.
